vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap 3.0
We are extremely pleased to inform the vBulletin.org community that a fully revamped version of the vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap (previously "vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator") v.3.0, is being released to all licensed vBulletin users effective immediately!

Note: The NEW vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap 3.0 replaces all previous versions of the "vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator", and includes support for all the new URL types in vBulletin 4.x.

New in the vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap v.3.0
The new sitemap alters the way data is structured in fundamental ways. Sitemap 3.0 segments different content areas into separate files, so you end up with a unique set of files per content type: forums, blogs, cms, groups, albums, members, tags, etc. In addition, the new sitemap has an extended priority feature that utilizes the built in 'weight' tool of the vBulletin XML sitemap generator for individual forums, CMS sections and articles to act as a multiplier.

We believe these changes are responsible for delivering increased returns for a number of forums from customers and testers we've been tracking. Please track your own progress via your Google Webmaster tools account, Google Analytics or Gravity Insights.

A Clean and Beautiful Interface
The new sitemap also features a clean and beautiful interface, built from the ground up. We believe it reflects the quality, precision and attention to detail placed into each aspect of this release. We are passionate about building software, and great software is beautiful inside, and out.

Overview
============================

The "vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap" plugin provides an easy to use solution that allows your forum to be indexed by all major search engines, including Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask, faster, more completely, more effectively, and with less bandwidth consumption.

The ultimate goal is to help you achieve more web traffic for your forum.

Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to help improve your site’s representation in the Google index. It's a collaborative crawling system that enables you to communicate directly with Google. You get a smarter crawl because you can provide Google with specific information about all your web pages, such as when a page was last modified or how frequently it changes.

Note: This plugin is fully compliant with vBSEO 3.5.x versions. The current version is vBSEO 3.5.2. If you are running vBSEO, please upgrade to vBSEO 3.5.2 (or greater) before installing for optimal results.

Compatibility
============================

Fully compatible with:
  • vBulletin 3.8.x, 4.0.x, 4.1.x
  • vBulletin Blogs *Optional
  • vBulletin CMS *Optional
  • vBSEO 3.5.2 + higher *Optional
What does it do?
============================
  • Auto-generates an XML sitemap for all of your specified forum URL types (including vBulletin Blog & CMS URLs).
  • NEW! Groups forum areas into individual sitemaps grouped by section type for greater flexibility, for example:
    • sitemap_forum_X.xml.gz
    • sitemap_tags_X.xml.gz
    • sitemap_cms_X.xml.gz
  • Auto-notifies Search Engines when a new sitemap is generated (optional)
  • Automatically sends you a summary of the sitemap generation via email each time it is created (optional)
  • Includes only publicly accessible forums and threads and includes the option of not including any specific public forums
  • Allows Search Engines to find all of your forum URLs without having to spider the forum to find the links. Great for Deep Page linking!
  • Allows Search Engines to find your forum URLs without having to account for query string and/or session ID information.
  • Allows Search Engines to give precedence to crawling your higher priority forum pages.
  • Allows Search Engines to give precedence to crawling your forum pages that change more frequently.
  • Allows you to conserve bandwidth by more efficiently facilitating the crawling processes for GoogleBot, Yahoo Slurp, Ask's Teoma, Bing's msnbot, and other search engine bots.
  • Is 100% compatible with the static CRUs (Content Relevant URLs) used by vBSEO-enabled forums.
  • Is 100% compatible with the 'Friendly URLs' offered default with vb4.x.
How does it work?
============================

Whenever it is scheduled or invoked via the URL, this plugin will generate an XML formatted that search engines are able to read and parse. If you selected "Yes" to the Auto-notification setting, The 4 major search engines will be notified each time the sitemap is generated.
  • Google Sitemap files are gzipped for space savings
  • Forum and thread pages are listed with pagination (i.e. all pages for each forums/thread are included in the sitemap)
  • Maximum Priority is set for Sticky threads.
  • Optimization for sitemap generation on large forums.
Automated Reporting Tool
============================

The vBSEO Sitemap includes a report tool, allowing you to track your progress. To access your reports enter the following URL:

http://www.example.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/

NOTE: Replace "http://www.example.com/forums/" with the full URL to your vB forum root.

You will be required to login by providing your "Sitemap Interface Access Password" from your vBSEO Sitemap settings in:
  • vBulletin Admin CP -> vBSEO -> vBSEO Sitemap Settings
Once you successfully login, you will see a number of tabs. Here are the 4 main links:

Reports List

Each vBSEO Sitemap generation record will include a (1) "View details" and (2) "Remove record" link. The "View Details" link shows more detailed information about the sitemap generated. The "Remove record" will permanently delete the record from your reports.

Downloads Log
The 'Show Sitemap Downloads Log' link will display a report of each time your vBSEO Sitemap was downloaded by either a search engine (Identified by the Bot's name) or by another user agent (i.e. Web browser, etc.).

The report includes the (1) date, (2) name of sitemap file downloaded, (3) Bot, (4) IP address of the downloader, and the (5) User-agent.

Each vBSEO Sitemap download record will include a "Remove record" link which will permanently delete the record from your reports.

Do you offer a brand free option?
Will this work on a Windows server?
Do you need vBSEO installed?

Hornstar 22 Feb 2009 02:32

Been waiting for this update. Hopefully this will fix my problems.

This is not vBSEO this is the sitemap generator. The sitemap generator does not have any copyright on the board. For vBSEO, we do offer a branding free with it. vBSEO will work on a windows server, but you need Isapi Rewrite Manger. vBSEO does not need to be installed for the sitemap generator, but it is recommended.

Obviously!

Infact, I upgraded so it was already 0777. Sitemap files create successfully in data folder. The problem is just with removing download log records from the interface.

Hornstar 22 Feb 2009 03:06

- Manually ran it, and I went to google webmaster tools. Last downloaded 4 minutes ago. Status: Warnings

- Clicked on details. Every single one shows up with Warnings.

Sitemap errors and warnings

- URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs redirect to other locations. We recommend that your Sitemap contain URLs that point to the final destination (the redirect target) instead of redirecting to another URL.

I asked this because I saw this in the description:
  • In addition, the following copyright notice must be maintained.
vBSEO(TM) © 2005-2009 Crawlability, Inc.

So, there is no branding?

They do have a server I can move to that has Micronovae mod_rewrite installed.

Will that work?

If you replacing your showpost link on your thread pages with Permalink because Google gives your sitemap warnings for having 301 redirects in it.

thanks but

All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority. ERROR @ google

Quote:

ll the URLs in your Sitemap are set to the same priority (not the default priority). Priority indicates the importance of a particular URL relative to other URLs on your site, and doesn't impact your site's performance in search results. If all URLs have the same priority, Google can't tell which are more important
tried this http://www.vbseo.com/f44/google-site...25/#post152275

and regenerate the site map twice and submitted twice to Google

every time says the same error after two or three days

It does. It isn't like this is the first version of this mod I've had. This is quite annoying.

I went in and just deleted the .dat file and let it rebuild itself. Let's see if that will change the problem...

Do you enable rel=nofollow option for member nick names on vBSEO ? If yes you should also not include member pages to Sitemaps.

Hornstar 24 Feb 2009 20:50

My errors finally went away after a few days, but now another error is showing.

1. I have 14 sitemap files all are okay except for 2, 3 and 4 which are giving me: All the URLs in your Sitemap have the same priority.

2. I have: Total URLs in Sitemap 401566 (but on my site I have Posts: 1,042,723) is that a bad thing not to have all your posts included in the sitemap?

3. I am still having to manually run the sitemap because it is not auto generating itself.

ReviewPage 24 Feb 2009 22:21

I installed the script and it works great! There is however one problem. It is uploading the sitemap to the data folder and the URL to sitemaps in the admin panel is taking me to http://rooturl/sitemap.xml. How can i change it or what do i have to do so that I can make the url http://rooturl/sitemap.xml for my sitemap? Also, how do i setup a ping to google?

Thanks!

I have tested the rewrite on my server and it works fine. My webmasters tool page says that Google gets the same 404 error and cannot find the sitemap.

Some help would be appreciated.

1. did you upload the .htaccess file or add the rewrite lines to your existing .htaccess file?

2. does your server permit mod_rewrite?

3. did you customize the location of the sitemap file in the vBSEO_sitemap options in your Admin CP?

4. did you try adding the following lines BEFORE the vBSEO_sitemap lines in .htaccess:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

5. do you have any other mod_rewrite instructions in your .htaccess file? if so, ensure that only the last one ends with "[L]".

1. did you upload the .htaccess file or add the rewrite lines to your existing .htaccess file? Yes

2. does your server permit mod_rewrite? Yes (tested)

3. did you customize the location of the sitemap file in the vBSEO_sitemap options in your Admin CP? No

4. did you try adding the following lines BEFORE the vBSEO_sitemap lines in .htaccess:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)

No, I will try this.

5. do you have any other mod_rewrite instructions in your .htaccess file? if so, ensure that only the last one ends with "[L]". No, it's the one that came with the mod.

Thanks for the help, I'll report back success (or lack thereof)! :D

Edit:
Would this be correct????

Check that your vbseo_sitemap\data folder has permissions set to 777.

No. Look at the vBSEO sitemap settings in your Admin CP. It will tell you the exact location of your sitemap according to your settings but it should end in sitemap_index.xml.gz.

Sorry, I meant to type sitemap_index.xml.gz.

Data permissions are 777.

BTW, if you pull up a sitemap in the domain root, it's because I manually copied it there so that Google can find it.

DrMirth 25 Feb 2009 22:01

Just installed and it's working fine. Looks like the vbseo_sm_vba_links addon needs updated to work with the latest version of vBadvanced Links Directory (v3.1.0) though - I'm receiving this error when the addon is enabled:

Someone please help me! I moved the sitemap_index.xml.gz manually from the /data/ directory to my forums main folder. If i try to directly access it via www.mydomain.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz it gives me a "404 - File Not Found" error.

Why is it doing this?

You do not need to move it anywhere. Let it remain in data/ folder. Its the htacees rewrite rules that does the job of accessing it from root.

rinkrat 26 Feb 2009 23:59

I get this:

Then it hangs.

WHAT CAN IT DO TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN?

thephoneclub 27 Feb 2009 02:11

rinkrat I went to the same. should increase the value of max_ejecution_time in php.ini

just install this product and send sitemap and google has told me this:

I re-uploaded everything and every file was overwritten which means they were there already. If you know which specific files I'm missing, please let me know. I have no trouble generating the sitemap. It runs automatically without any trouble. I tested the mod_rewrite and it works fine. I was able to access the Google page as a test.

I don't want to put any ugly comments or get an attitude because after all, these hacks are free. But I cannot access the sitemap with the .htaccess rewrite rule and neither can Google. That effectively makes this mod useless if I have to manually do everything. I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks. ;)

That's rock. But i habe one (big?) Problem:
  1. I have clicked on Run Sitemap Generator

[create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 1 [5,476.4Kb mem used] [0s (+0s)]
Sitemap has been created. Click here to return [5,478.5Kb mem used] [2s (+2s)]
  3. But when i click on http://www.mywebsitex.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz then come only:
    Page not found
Board-Data:
vBulletin Version 3.8.1 + vBSEO 3.2.0

Has someone an idea? Thanks.

4) for install vBSEO Sitemap Generator I should modify my htacess or software will do it automatically?

If you already have an .htaccess file, you'll need to add to it - needed addition included with download. If you don't yet have an .htaccess file, you can upload the one in the download.
