Click Install Please.

Only Vb 4.0.x.

Info:
What is this plugin for?

This plugin makes it possible to show data from IMDB Movie Database using the movie ID with a BBCode.

As far as I know many users were looking for a plugin something like this which pulls data from IMDB and shows directly in the post.

This plugin uses a script which is contributed under GPL. However, a big part of the system was rewritten and a lot of coding were done to integrate both systems.

Features:
Plugin Pulls these movie information:
- Contry (Lite)
- Genre (Lite)
- Time (Lite)
- Language (Lite)
- Director (Lite)
- Cast (Advanced Version)
- Description (Advanced Version) (Extended)
- IMDB Score (Advanced Version)
- Thumbnail Picture (Advanced Version) (Now larger picture avaliable for Advanced Version)
-Trailer Link (Advanced Version)
- Advanced control of style, language and dimension. (Advanced Version)

Installation

Included in the zip file under "Documentation"

How To Use

You simple copy the part at the end of the IMDB link and copy after the tt letters the IMDB ID and write it between the tags.

Example: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/ you copy 0468569 and write it between two tags like this : [IMDB]0468569[/IMDB]

Common Mistakes With This Plugin:
- Your host must have the allow_url_open option set as OPEN or ON.
- Images and cache folder's CHMOOD must set to 777 ( Files and Subfolders )
- The Format of usage is [IMDB]0468569[/IMDB] not [IMDB]tt0468569[/IMDB] or [IMDB]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/[/IMDB]

Credits and Notes:
- Part of the plugin was written under GPL.
- Special Thanks to Melih Büyük who made this plugin work.
- Thanks to salusoft of showing his modification of the plugin. I benefit from his style to make some changes.
-Bug reports, suggestions that would help improve this plugin are always welcome.

Guys, actually It is working. But if you have made any changes before with class_bbcode.php it is possible to get an error.

I updated the installation.txt for those. Please report if there is a change.

Well, it wasn't working with the previous installation steps :)
Hold on, lemme give it another try...

TimberFloorAu 01 Jun 2009 21:24

* Upgraded VB to 3.8.2

* did template edit as per NEW instructions, to class_bbcode.php

Im sorry but Nothing, albeit no errors.

What are we looking for ? In terms of bbcode, as it is in editor no imdb.gif is shown, nor in code source

Can't you use it at all ? Did you try to use [imdb]0383574[/imdb]
it for example?

TimberFloor would you please make a screenshot and please PM me your class_bbcode.php file.

Note: Here is where the imdb.gif used:

Nope, still doesn't work.

imdb.gif doesn't display in the editor box. I tried [imdb]0383574[/imdb], but I get this error:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

Class BBCODE enclosed.

No gif ( perhaps path is incorrect in editor_toolbar_on )

Can you also explain why people would use 05674687 as a imdb code ?
Surely this should/be better if it was like:

[imdb]Star Wars[/imdb]

Put the imdb.gif into your own style's editor directory.

I prefered to use the ID insead the name. Otherwise It would be confusing because there are films which have nearly the same name. ID is much more reliable.

Totally disagree with the last sentence, as most of our users, would happily wish to share films with online friends, but not necessarily wish to go onto imdb site to get the films code.

Will try changing the path

TimberFloorAu 01 Jun 2009 22:21

Mate our style is Australia on our forum ( style name )

I cannot even locate imdb.gif in the source code...

Somethings wrong huh

Using Firefox all we get is a left aligned iframe with: Failed to Connect

In fact its trying to connect to localhost ????

Reuploaded your latest version, and re uploaded product file. Still fails, still no gif

laztrix 01 Jun 2009 22:40

Well I might figure it out what's wrong here.

I update the threat and added a class_bbcode.php example who getting difficulties modifying it.

i'm trying to install your latest version but i cant follow the instructions as their partly in a foreign language

Well mate, are you planning to share the IMDB TAG Code with other ones? I do not see the point here by doing that.

Plus, it is always a possible that you write the film name wrong or remember it not right. At that point the TAG will parse the ID wrong and you have to it all over again.
It is much more comfortable to search it on imdb and get the id (thats my opinion).

Please follow the instructions again, I certainly hope this is the final one :)

Yes, beacuse of that I did write the instructions on the threat. Please follow the steps there. I'm sure this time It's going to work.

TimberFloorAu 01 Jun 2009 22:55

Thanks LAZ.

I have now totally installed. As per new instructions.

NO GOOD im afraid.

Now TOTALLY UNINSTALLED.

I think perhaps, in Turkey you get a different version of IMDB to us lol

Will reinstall when other english only boards on 3.8.2 have it working, keep up the good work, you will get there.

Also may help to instruct people what to put in the bbcode. As no explanation doesnt actually help.

Most films we look at on IMDB > are listed as such http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/

Ste * uninstalled for now*

It gets the information from the universal adres, there is no particular adress for the Turkish ones :)

I made an instruction on the threat at final. If you follow it right you will get it work.

i'm sorry but the only one around here with the wrong attitude is you. Timberfloor is pointing out the the author of the mod that there is a problem that others, including myself are experiencing. Please have you never heard of the saying if you've got nothing nice to say.........

Guys listen up! I totally forgot to mention that your host has to have the allow_url_fopen = on

Other than that I could not see why some of the users can not this plugin get working.

Please guys, do not fight over this. I did not feel anything wrong whith Timber's words. So please calm down. As I posted before your host must have the allow_url_fopen = on set open.

Please aware this is actually one of the most important thing to get this thing working.

TimberFloorAu 01 Jun 2009 23:49

My immediate concern is the security risk imposed.

http://phpsec.org/projects/phpsecinf...url_fopen.html

Could CURL be a safer bet ?

http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.curl.php

Well it would not cause a huge security risk to a/your servers security. Most of the server owners disable this option beacuse of the low usage, need thats all. I personally disable a feature if I'm not using it...

Using curl is another option, but it would increase the servers load and slow the page down. So I prefered allow_url_fopen option.

xug 02 Jun 2009 00:18

Adjust the link in the 'idmb' template ;)

by adjusting that link I finally have some live in this add-on, it projects the movie info but on top of the iframe box in my posting I get the following error:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in [path]/imdb.php on line 17

You're gonna get what your want DobieGillisİ :) You just had to be more patient. When everybody noticed the "Page not found" error I thought It couldn't get a connection to the database but It was! The problem is that I have forgotten to mention one other verry verry important thing! You have to put the site adress in one of the new template block.

And if it is not still working, come and shoot me !:D

Edit: The new version covers the template changes. No manuel changes needed with the IMDB template block.

TimberFloorAu 04 Jun 2009 23:25

If you have it installed before It's enought you change that in the template but If you are installing it again I wrote some lines to the plugin and fixed that issue.

TimberFloorAu 04 Jun 2009 23:42

Okies seems to work fine now ;)

But its not rewriting the urls within the iframe correctly

Plus works in preview mode.

But when we post, we lose the [imdb] link .... and get nothing.

Also in editor the imdb image not appearing.

Yes it isn't showing it creates an IFrame instead. It was mentioned before I'm working on that...

put the image either in images/editor or yourtheme/image/editor folder.

And please attach a screenshot will you ?

Chadi 05 Jun 2009 05:22

edit: got it working

OP should mention in the install that you have to edit imdb template to add your site's url. I don't know why you did not do that yet when you already acknowledged this in a few posts back.

One thing that isn't working is no thumbnails in the output. Your screenshot shows a thumbnail. Shouldn't that be there?

Thanks

There are two screenshots Chadi, one is for the lite one and the other one for the full version ( paid version )

Yesterday I made a clean Vbulletin installation and tested the plugin which is working perfectly.

Please double check that you gave the right CHMOOD permissions to the image and cache folder ( 7777 )

Other than that nor now I can not see why this plugin wont't work properly.

The version has changed as you noticed, the site adress issue was fixex with the 1.02 version so you don't have to change anything with that.

TimberFloorAu 05 Jun 2009 09:26

Mate, lets say we do a thread.

And put [imdb]tt187728267[/imdb]

Now, if we click PREVIEW thread, it works.

Soon as we publish, it all disappears.

Any suggestions please. ?

Yes. Now have it working without the TT portion. But ghastly black border around the movie info, can this be removed or iframe resized to remove this?

Plus links of actors, as stated in previous posts, isnt linking to IMDB, but via our website, causing bad links: see image

Apparently this has been changed in new product, if you havent uploaded new product, then redownload and do so.

If you havent and cant be bothered lol, its in:

admincp>styles and templates > your style> search for imdb

then change the
http://localhost/something else I cannot remember /
to
http://yourwebsite.com/your forum folder/

TimberFloorAu 05 Jun 2009 21:40

I think those that have persevered with this and helped bug test should be upgraded to the paid version free of charge ;)

Yeah, Im still of the opinion, that it should work like the youtube mod.

In essence a user should be able to either:

1. click the imdb link, and then type in the film name. And then it retrieves the info from the imdb without the user having to paste the link in.

or.

2. user pastes in the link after clicking the imdb icon, and the script strips the http://imdb.com/tt portion leaving the script to then to work as intended, most of our users would not know to remove the tt part, intuitively.

3. as the youtube mod, but just paste the entire link into a post, and the script, does a total rewrite into this hack, and produces the info as per my image 3 posts up.

It needs to be simplified, and made more user friendly. Lets hope the coder agrees. And can find a work around. My son does a similar thing for www.farkie.com but he is too busy to help, lol

right -o... the file you make the change to add your URL is IMDB, when you search in styles.

original text

http://$bburl/imdb.php?mid=$idfilme

get rid of that $bburl and replace with your www.yoursite.com/forum

it worked for me. That is what was holding me back the past few days. Hope that others can benefit from our frustration with this mod.

I put the changes into the plugin file, you don't have to do it manually. Just reupload the plugin that would solve it.

I got verry tired to say that you propably get even more tired to hear that, but I'm still gonna say it :)

Please rewiev the template changes on your editor template and make sure you have the imdb.gif icon in the images/editor folder. Give it a try by copying into your custom themes editor folder ( yourthem/editor )

You don't have to change anything, you simple reupload the plugin what is going to solve that issue automatically.

As you know this plugin is my very first work that I have shared here in vbulletin.org! So I admit there were some unsolved things at the beginning. I want to thank you, both of you guys, DobieGillisİ, TimberFloorAu for putting a positive effor to make things right.

Look at the URL of the hovered link. Its not prefixing the film / actor link with imdb.com but with our site URL.

TimberFloorAu 05 Jun 2009 23:40

IMDB gif is indeed in our specific styles editor folder.

http://www.yobromofo.com/forum/style...ditor/imdb.gif

TimberFloorAu 05 Jun 2009 23:42

Seems the issue is in the php file:

imdb/imdbicon.gif line 226

Look at the URL of the hovered link. Its not prefixing the film / actor link with imdb.com but with our site URL.

I set the area blank arround the IMDB area which sometimes in some themes this causes this black thing issue. Yes you can resize the iframe: Admincp - Styles - Your theme - IMDB find in the template

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

you can change the size and reduce is so that the black frame disappears.

I'm still working on the IFRAME thing. It is currently working in a preview mode and creates a code. I don't want that as you mentioned it before. I'll try to fix that.

The cast members info are parsed by the script itself. A new page opens blank where additional information appear.

About the image problem in the editor try also yourtheme/image/editor/imdb.gif

TimberFloorAu 06 Jun 2009 01:49

Still got black even after changing to #ffffff

Still cannot get IMDB image to display, have thoroughly checked code in editor_toolbar_on

Links still are prefixed from within the iframe with our site url.

This perhaps is because I am using explicit url and not bburl ? perhaps

Would love to say that this works, but sadly it does not.
The iframe.php page is not found (yet I can call it via browser and it's there). Not going to spend a lot of time debugging sloppy code, just going to say that this doesn't work.

Guys first at all, sorry for the late reply. I have currently my final exams and therefore I can't be online for long time.

The mysql error is caused by the false usage of the IMDB ID. To prevent that please use the IMDB ID without the tt letters!

"The Page can not be found" issue has been solved with the last plugin and has been confirmed working by users which had that error before.
You simple remove the plugin from your administration area and reupload it.

Important notice: Sometimes removing the plugin from the admincp doesn't get the table in th database removed, which should normally do. In this case remove the imdb table manually if reuploading does not solve this issue.

It's very easy to slander someone elses work, I always prefer to be more proactive and find a solution before I burry it in the ground.

As I always say, respectfully, make sure you have double checked all the steps and instructions.

No, it has not. If it had, I would not have the problem. I downloaded the addon 2 days ago for the first time, and installed it this morning. It does not work

If you had followed the instructions you would see this written in the thread:

Common Mistakes With This Plugin:
- Your host must have the allow_url_open option set as OPEN or ON.
- Images and cache folder's CHMOOD must set to 777 ( Files and Subfolders )
- The Format of usage is [IMDB]0468569[/IMDB] not [IMDB]tt0468569[/IMDB] or [IMDB]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/[/IMDB]

skol 17 Jun 2009 08:51

Thats interesting Laztrix..

Quote:

- The Format of usage is [IMDB]0468569[/IMDB] not [IMDB]tt0468569[/IMDB] or [IMDB]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/[/IMDB]
I can put any of the formats above in and they work (using firefox),but good old IE has problems.[IMDB]0468569[/IMDB] and [IMDB]tt0468569[/IMDB] work fine, but not [IMDB]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/[/IMDB] that ends up as a live link when copied and pasted..ie if you use any of the above formats and they are blue, underlined (live link) they wont work.

Maybe a suggestion to all to try it in firefox first to show you how the format should look before you try in IE,certain add-ons in (which can be disabled) IE browser seem to be causing,a couple of problems..So come on guys you should be checking different browsers being web masters! it's not only a mod for the browser you personally use,you have your members to consider plus you're helping the coder who's spent a lot of time creating this.

All in all works perfect,i may upgrade as there's not a lot of info on the lite version..10/10

I have a quick question. I made sure I did it 100% right. based of what you said to do. This is a great mod but it still seems to bring up a blank page when I wrap the numbers in the IMDB tag.

Now it could be my host just doesn't allow it (Godaddy) but my question is I can stream Youtube, GT, Gamerrroom and other Videos using a tag around it. I just don't see why I can use those but not this.

Can someone please help me. Thanks alot.

Psychosiis2, if you had done everything right, you would get it work! I can't say why but I'm sure you have to have allow_url_open option on.

That's almost funny
The mod does not work. I've said it, others have said it, author refuses to admit it, but it doesn't work.

IF the mod worked, then there would be no problem with it, and it wouldn't be trying to pull up some "page can not be found" error, it would not be doing things incorrectly, and (heaven forbid) users wouldn't have problems.

You can only blame the user so many times before you have to look at your own code man.

Well wolfstream, I wish I could make everybody happy, but unfortunately that seems not to be possible. Some of the users got it working, some of them not.

I did my job, until the next release I'm done answering to the same questions.

Thanks.

Ok the question i have is if I can stream videos from youtube by using the URL. Does that mean my hosting will allow me to do the same with this mod? I will redo this whole mod and record myself doing so (Edit the video for my password safty) and show you what I'm doing so you can tell me what I"m doing wrong. Because I felt I did everything right.

So my question is. Since I can pull videos from youtube, how come I can't pull info from IMDB? Is my Allow_URL_Open set to OPen on On since I can pull videos from YouTube?

Psychosiis2 26 Jun 2009 23:37

I just got of the phone with my Hosting company and they said that the allow_url_open is set to Enable by default. So that is allowed. I really like this mod and if we could get it to work I would like to talk to you about upgrading to your other IMDB mod that shows the DvD cover and other info. So could you please help me.?

Psychosiis2 27 Jun 2009 00:47

It is your job to support your users here, and figure out why your product works sporadically, so you have absolutely not done your job.

The fact is that this hack doesn't work, and you, the author don't want to spend time getting it to work. That's fine, just say so, but don't criticize people who have followed the instructions, still can't get it to work and call the code just what it is, sloppy.

This plugin has a lot of potential, but with your own attitude, it's not even going to get off the ground. Find the problem and fix it, don't blow it off like it's nothing
