Start a new site with VB3.8x - Still practical ?
Although there are some old thread on this, there does not seem to be anything recent.
V3 is still my favourite even after extensive testing of 4 and 5. I thought about 4 but afaik its not receiving any new features and I see far too many odd cosmetic concerns even now ![]() 3 just seems perfect as all that's required is a forum nothing more. I've fixed my localhost copy so its working OK with php5.5. and mysql 5.6 the latest one seemed OK apart from a couple of minor issues. Impex I had to spend a bit of time 'fixing' unfortunately. FWIW I've had the licence for a long long long time but never really used it, but the time is approaching where I will be. Any thoughts please ? ![]()

All depend on which you will do for your site without belong to vb versions

If you're going to start a site with 3.8, use 3.8.9 for the latest php and MySQL compatibility.
That said, you'd be MUCH better starting a site with 4.2.2.

Just out of interest, but...why?
So many hugely successful sites ruinning 4.2...huge amount of styles and add ons for it...more features than 3.x. Sites like mine never looked back after upgrading to vB4. Sites with established communities on vB3, I can understand not wanting to upgrade as it's a lot of work...but why would you start out on vB3? It doesn't make any sense. vB4 is a high quality, stable and fully-featured product.

![]() Most things were easy to fix depreciated errors etc and or the more usual (in third party stuff iirc) type= vs engine= for queries. There are just too many cosmetic issues in 4.x I would like to use it though, its silly things like linebreaks missing etc. My main concern was exploits really I guess.
