vertical spacing issue in IE

I've recently changed my footer a bit and it doesn't display correctly in IE, even though the code seems ok at first sight, there's about 20px of vertical spacing between the footer and content above it, in FF it looks fine.. (check to see what's happening. Also, this is part of the code near the footer:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)  
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Ideas are very much welcome, looking forward to your replies..
