DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Great work RS_Jelle!

Is it possible to increase file name character limitation?

I'm looking for a few things with that I hope can either be changed or added eventually.
  • The ability to change the layout of the sub-categories so they look less cluttered.
  • The ability to add images onto your upload while adding the file instead of after.
  • The ability to sort the file listing by ratings! - IMPORTANT

does this allow you to post links to downloads and store them categorically without having to upload to your own server? I'd much rather create a download center that serves as a reference databank to downloads but that aren't off my server.. So when you create a download you enter the "title" and then sort of like how with the avatar feature it asks u browse from your computer or enter a link, i'd want the users to enter a link. is this possible to do with this mod?

Yes, you can enter a link only if you choose. Simply disable file uploading for all usergroups (unless you want to be able to do this as an admin) and you can do this easily enough. I am doing it for my site as well .

How should that look like?

That's already possible? Just look at the "Sort by" dropdown at the bottom of a category and choose "File Rating".

I have a small request: Would it be possible to have tags added to files in the future? It could help when people search for files.

Now it is like
sub-categories1, sub-categories2, sub-categories3, sub-categories4, sub-categories5

It is better to make an option for the sub-categories, something like:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=233084
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showp...96&postcount=2

so we can make it in this way (1 in each line)
- sub-categories1,
- sub-categories2,
- sub-categories3,
- sub-categories4,
- sub-categories5

OR (2 in each line)
- sub-categories1 ............... - sub-categories2
- sub-categories3 ............... - sub-categories4
- sub-categories5

Depend on the number of the sub-categories in each line, which is selected by the adminstrator from the admincp.

Sorry, I should be more specific. It should show the ratings in the actual file list, so that users can easily sort it without it being hidden. Just brings it more to the forefront as it will be very important for my users.

The sub-forums should be a 2 column list, similar to how VSA - Sub-Forum Manager displays subforums. It will look so much better. Also, put the files loaded in the category next to it in parenthesis. Will be nice for people to know just how many files are in certain categories.

Last request (or maybe not), the ability to add thumbnails to the file while you're adding it. Not after the fact would be great. Thanks!

One more small request: Can we have a subscription option, similar to what we have on the vbulletin.org forums? It would be nice for people to be able to sign up to be notified when updates or comments are made.

Breaks fixed templates with 4.0.5 (vBulletin stock style) - I'll wait for an update before installing on site. Nice mod though.

I'm running 4.0.5 and it works fine for me. Any screenshot of what you mean?
