Hi there,

is it possible to have 2 vBulletins 4.X and only one User DB..
So if the User registering in Board1 he can also then login to board2?

Is this possible? And is there a tutorial out there how can i do that?

Cause i wanna buy two licenses.. but only if this will work.

Regards

Hello,

This is possible, but it is not so easy to setup. Some modifications have to be done and both sites will need to be setup identical.

Like: Open File XYZ.PHP Modifie code 134 to 456
Make SQL Statement: select * bla blub...

You know what i mean?

So what i wanna do is to install a VB.. then import all my Data from my old phpBB3 including Userdata

Then i install the secondVB and make the Modifications to get the Userdata in VB install 2...

And become newbies here help in the forum?

Cause i am not so fimiliar with SQL etc...

So this is possible?

I am not aware of an existing tutorial for vBulletin 4 for such a modification.

Also as i mentioned before this is not so easy to setup. A bit more techinical, but the entire setup of your forums must be identical, and stay identical. For example each user is placed in a Usergroup, linked by usergroupid. This means that both the forums must have an identical Usergroup structure with even the id's identical. The same goes for permissions. This means both boards must have the same set of permissions and both boards must have identical forums with the same forumid's. Although board-A could have forum's A & B, and board-B could have forum's A & C, but the permissions for forums A would also be shared between these boards. A lot of caveat's.

An easier, and better maintainable, solution would be to use a single install of the software with a single database, and create a modification - based on the board URL - to present it as 2 seperate forums for the users. This would also give the option to share some common forums between the boards.
(PS This would still require 2 licenses)

Yes both new users and experienced users can get help on our forums. But please be aware that vBulletin.org is a community that relies on members helping members, so no "official" support is given here.

Hi,

thanks for your help

so that sounds great:

Is there already out mod out there?

So you mean i come on domain1.com and see other forums then when i surf to domain2.com but these to domains are linking to the same webspace?

So the two boards should have different Categories and so on...

So you think there is a mod that do such thing

I surf to domain1.com and see Categorie1 with Forum1 and when i surf to domain2.com i see Categorie2 with Forum2 but they are all in the same Database in the same installation?

That sounds great...

That sounds very much doable. I am not aware if there already is an existing modification for vBulletin 4 for this, but you could try searching our site.

There are some older mods for sharing users but nothing for vb4 that I recall seeing. You may want to read this thread, Adrian (who also created a mod for this) suggests using mysql views which creates a symbolic link between the tables.
