DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Jelle,
After upgrade to 4.1.4 and when I try to edit a file I get blank page !

For example,
- click (edit)
- change the title (or anything)
- click (submit)
- Blank white page !

Are you facing same issue?

Loving this product, it inserts it self in to the vbulletin system nice and neatly. Which I admit caught me out because I have gotten used to every app needing its own permission page etc, not this time, its where you would look for permissions normally

Now I know users love to moan about free gifts without thinking about the FREE GIFT part first because I am a modder and get that too. So let me put this product in its rightful place amongst download managers for websites.

Having used everything from Nuke, Mamba, Joomla, IPB and many others, and tried their download managers out. I can say with some confidence this probably the best one available right now.

Its easy to install, easy to use, easy to add files too. Though there is room for improvement here with the file list which looks a little untidy in the way its presented currently, unless I am missing a feature that changes that. Which might be the case, I am a new user of this software.

Basically though users hoping to find a better download manager either for free or professional will have a hard time. Usually they are nightmares and missing key features which this program seems to have.

No, for me it works fine

90% chance it's caused by another mod related to the editor on your site which isn't 100% vB 4.1.4 compatible. Try disabling other mods and see if it helps.

All my usergroups are set to No.
Is there somewhere in a table I can reset how much I've downloaded?

Agreed 100% Downloads II has become a centerpiece in our forum, it's such a great app.

When you first try to upload a file, the first page is in what looks to me to be italian. The rest is in english. How do I resolve that?

EDIT: Disregard - the reseases add-on is in Italian, but after thinking a bit, I do not need that addon so I disabled it.

Hi Jelle! I guess there is a update neccessary. Vbulletin 4.1.4 runs without the /includes/functions_wysiwyg.php and there seems to be a call by Downloads II if you are using the wysiwyg editor. Since in 4.1.4 it is missing you will get a

Warnung: require_once([path]/includes/functions_wysiwyg.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in [path]/downloads.php (Zeile 1484)
You won't notice it, if you are upgrading vom 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 cause the functions_wysiwyg.php will be there, but people doing a fresh install or wiping off old files after upgrading will run into this.

cu and a happy weekend!

Pierre

A suggestion to this:

Each category should use it's own folder.
If you move a file to a category, then the file should also be moved to it's own catetory.

Websites with huge numbers of files will have problems with the number of files in the downloads folder without it being broken down.

Agree with that. Or, at least, have the ability to add links to already stored filesimages and without adding extra files for the thumbnails.

Not if you have done a fresh install. functions_wysiwyg.php that is being called no longer exists and is not distributed with vbulletin 4.1.4

i.e. if a user was to buy vbulletin 4.1.4 today and install this mod it would not work

Hah, I didn't notice this myself as I always use the standard, non-WYSIWYG editor

I will issue a fix release.
