vB Optimise Lite

Professional version & feature list available @ www.DragonByte-Tech.com
Priority support for Lite version is handled at the Developers Website.

What does it do?

vB Optimise is intended to optimise vBulletin software by integrating several PHP "cachers" and handling data before vBulletin. This works by encountering and handling data prior to vBulletin in order to skip the arbitary execution that would be more server intensive.

Real-Life Statistics

We've teamed up with some Big Forums to show you the impact of vB Optimise, you can view this public chart which shows both our statistics and theirs:

FAQ

Q: I have WinCache installed, but vB Optimise tells me it's not?
A: WinCache only introduced OpCode support in version 1.1, if you're using version 1.0.x you will need to upgrade.

Q: I'm using the XCache method, flushing doesn't work?
A: If you have XCache authentification, turn the admin option on within vB Optimise Settings, then edit ./vboptimise/config.php and specify your XCache username/password. Alternatively you can disable XCache authentification within php.ini:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Q: I have eAccelerator installed, but vB Optimise tells me it's not?
A: eAccelerator does not provide the caching extension by default, you will need to recompile PHP with additional flags. For more information read eAccelerator documentation located here: http://eaccelerator.net/wiki/CompileConfiguration (Specifically look at: with-eaccelerator-shared-memory)

Q: It says my opcode cacher can't store data?
A: Check to see you're using a supported Apache handler if you're using Apache: http://www.thecpaneladmin.com/wp-con...phandlers2.png

It's actually been slower, but perhaps it is a coincidence? I just got an email from one of my moderators (who didn't know I installed this):

"The site has been running very slow for me today. Is that just on my end or have you noticed also? Other sites seem to work fine. I'm also using Chrome."

I may have to disable to see if it makes any difference.

It could be, we have had no reports of vB Optimise slowing down page loads before

My forum has indeed been very bogged down since installing, but we did have some pretty high traffic so it seems that would be more likely the reason. Optimise has saved us 4.4 million queries in just a few days.

I see this feature in the Pro version:

Full Guest Caching
Ability to cache entire pages and serve them saving not only hundreds of queries but upto 90% of CPU processing towards Guests.

This may be what I'm looking for since a lot of our visitors are guests. If 75% of our visitors are guests, would you be confident that this "90%" savings in CPU usage from guests would be our solution? I'm looking to upgrade the server but considering trying this first. Although the server upgrade might be cheaper.

There's zero way for me to confidently say one way or the other, but I do know that if the majority of your users are guests then you would see a major increase in performance relative to the guest:member ratio

PHP.ini had this:

Try deleting all vB Optimise files (might want to uninstall it first), including old files (i.e. the vboptimise directory that's not inside the dbtech directory) and re-install.

I've no idea why it would try to re-declare that class...

I am getting this error when I tried selecting eAccelerator as the cache operator.

The problem is that eAccelerator is installed and is working fine on my server.

Is there anything I could do? Or I am stuck with File cache? Thanks.

Due to no shared caching feature in Eaccelator 9.6.1, I have decided to try Xcache instead and now get this error:

Warning: xcache_get() [function.xcache-get]: XCache var cache was not initialized properly. Check php log for actual reason in [path]/dbtech/vboptimise/includes/operators/xcache.php on line 21

You'll need to contact your host regarding that one, I've never ran into that one before so I can't help, sorry

It's a problem with the way XCache is set up on the server, not with vBO.

I am very interested in this plugin simply for the CDN integration. I have done a lot of other manual optimizing, but the CDN integration is the one I am after.

Here are some questions:

I am going to use Rackspace Cloud Files. Will this plugin automatically upload the files from my server to the Cloud Files? Obviously I will need to create a bucket and change the cname, but I am wondering if I will have to manually upload the files to the CDN.

Will this store all attachments, images, css, js to the CDN? Will there be proper expires headers, etc?

I am familiar with Wordpress and have used W3Total Cache many times. It is a great plugin and really works well with Cloud Files. Will this plugin have a similar experience as far as integrating with Cloud Files and uploading new content?

Looks like your host is using suPHP, you will have to run DSO to make this work.
Contact your host and ask them if they can do this for you.

Why am I forced to have 3 links on every page of my website if I pay $100 for the plugin?

I have to pay an extra $100 to remove the branding? $200 total? Thats a little ridiculous for removing links/ads.

There are 2 links in the pro version, not 3, both to dragonbyte-tech.com. We cannot discuss the pro version here on vb.org, but we are aware not all sites will be able/willing to pay for the pro modification etc, which is why we put out a 100% free lite version. In addition we don't force anyone to use our products, it's completely optional .
