vBulletin Cron Based Database Backup
![]() Developer Last Online: Jan 2018 ![]() ![]() ![]() This thread is in the Modification Graveyard.
As of 23 Nov 2017 this modification has been withdrawn.
This is a cut down version based on a backup system written by Trigunflame for vb 3.0. It is a simple vBulletin cron trigged php system that does a dump of your database - either as one complete file, or as one file per table. Especially useful now that IB removed the old ACP backup option in vBulletin 4. Files can be (G)Zipped to save space. All the options are located in the ACP in vBulletin Options >> vBulletin Automatic Backup To install, download and unzip the files, and follow the instructions in the text file. History: v4.0.1 : 28-Dec-2009 : Initial release for vb 4.0.0 Gold. v4.0.2 : 29-Dec-2009 : Added ability to block process larger tables. v4.0.3 : 27-Jun-2010 : Added Gzip option. v4.1.0 : 04-Dec-2010 : Updated for vBulletin 4.1.0. v4.1.7.0 : 16-Oct-2011 : Updated for vBulletin 4.1.7. v4.2.0.0 : 24-May-2012 : Updated for vBulletin 4.2.0. v4.2.0.1 : 17-Mar-2013 : Removed vboptions from backup call.. v4.2.0.2 : 25-Nov-2013 : Fix php 5.3 deprecated warnings, added mysqldump backup. Your php probably has other restrictions in place.

Wow. I upgrade, run this... and my dbase is now more than twice the size it was before the upgrade. Whooooo. That's large.
This is one of the hacks that I refuse to upgrade until I see it... Thanks Paul. No members have liked this post.

Excellent mod Paul. Works flawlessly. Is there anyway to make the mod so I can delete backup files after say 5 backups? So there are never more than 5 at a given time. If not, that's fine, I'll just log in from time to time and delete them. Thanks again!!

My backup use to take about 1 1/2 - 2 minutes. The last 4 or 5 days they've taken 5-6 minutes.
Any explanation for this? Is it the hack/mod or my server/my site. And what do I need to do? Thanks!! ![]() No members have liked this post.

There is no way I can possibly know whats happening on your server.
![]() If its working then you dont need to do anything.

There are no changes in the mod between v4.0.1 and v4.1.0 of the mod that would cause that - either you are using a different path to before, or something has changed on your server.

when I do a backup manually I get the Backup Error : Could not write to destination file even though my backup directory is 777 and the path is correct. I also get a 1kb file placed in the backup directory after doing a manual backup. A file being placed there tells me my path is correct and it is writable.
So whats going on? What am I doing wrong? No members have liked this post.

Sorry, I have no idea. I cannot comment on the setup [and oddities] of individual servers.

Can you give me any ideas on what would cause that at server level?
