DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Ok, so I think I figured out how one way users can be getting many of the 'invalid security token' errors. I have my Downloads Center set so only members can download files, but guests can view them.

Let's say I'm a member already but I'm not logged in. When I go to click on the download link of a file it will tell me that I do not have sufficient privileges because of X, X, or X. It then gives me the option to login/register so that I can download that file. Well, when I login it automatically directs me to a the 'security token' page instead of allowing me to continue on and download. So in order to download I have to find that file again once I'm logged in and click on the link to bring me back to the same file. Then I am able to download without the 'security token' issue.

I think that a lot of users don't realize this and just assume that they can't download the file so they do as the 'security token' error page tells them, and they contact support from there.

There may be other issues, but this seems like it could be the main issue for my situation. Can others verify. Do security tokens happen other ways as well?

Also, I suppose I could fix this issue if I don't allow guests to view files, but then that may prohibit many users from registering with my site if they can't see the comments and details of a file.

Is there anyway to make it so instead of the user continuing onto the download after logging in, that they are instead directed back to the file they were trying to download?

What did you change, because I just installed this and I can't figure out what the problem is with no errors showing up.

Within the downloads2_file template, I see this:

<span>{vb:rawphrase dl2_uploaded_by} <a href="{vb:link member, {vb:raw file}, null, 'uploaderid', 'uploader'}">{vb:raw file.uploader}</a> - {vb:raw file.dateadded}</span>

Is there any way I can get it to say dateupdated or dateeditied instead of the date it was added originally?
I update files frequently with newer versions, and it is getting fustrating that it keeps the original date, where people would think it has not been updated since the 1st upload.

I would REALLY like a "Version" field too to be consistant....

Please help! Thanks.

When uploading a file, I get the message 'The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.'

Is there any way of disabling the need to input a message with a file?

Hello, every day, some members report this error message: 'invalid security token'
I was not able to reproduce the problem.

What to do?

I can't get mine to do anything, it just gives me a blank error. What can I do to see what is preventing me from uploading files?

Essentially, I can't use this product.

Thank you

How do I increase length of filename?

Hi and sincere apologies if this has been answered previously. I searched, but couldn't find it...

Is anyone able to tell me where/how I can increase the length of the filename field (ie number of characters in the filename field)?

Within the downloads2_file_addit template, I have changed the 'maxlength to 100 as below:

<div class="blockrow">
<label for="title">{vb:rawphrase dl2_file_name}:</label>
<div><input type="text" class="primary textbox" name="title" id="title" value="{vb:raw newfile.title}" maxlength="100" tabindex="1" /></div>

But this doesn't seem to have made any please?

Really appreciated!

is it possible to indicate unlimited max file size (eg. -1 for no limit instead of "bytes")?

Is this mod supported or not? It is marked as such, but I don't see anyone receiving any support.

I know how it works, these are free mods, but if it marked as supported, more people tend to use the mod without fear of it being abandoned... I've used the mod and I can't get it working, nor can I get any support.
