make users browsing non vb pages show up as "online"

i have a site where users can log in and use their vbulletin login info to do things like post movie reviews and comment on our non vbulletin news system, but these users don't show up in the who's online section.

basically i include global.php in the files so i can read their username and userid.

what do i have to do to make them show up as online users when browsing the rest of the site? i'm guessing i somehow need to initiate a session, or have that session follow them from the forums to the rest of the site

any help is greatly appreciated!!!

i should also add that i'm not concerned with showing WHERE they are online, more so just that they appear in the online users list.

so far here is where i'm at...

i include the global.php file and i'm able to check usernames and id's and all that, using them to associate comments in our news and user submitted movie reviews with their vbulletin accounts.

the problem is the user while browsing non vb pages is not included in the "who's online list". i tried for the heck of it including misc.php at the bottom of the page and bam, there it is.

i tried going through the file and figuring out what exactly misc.php is doing that makes the user appear active but i just can't figure it out. i feel like it's something simple and i'm just looking right over it...

STUMPED!

thanks for both of those.. maybe i'm missing something though....

i really don't care right now if they show up in the who's online list as "unknown", i just want them to show up period. i thought including global.php would do that but it doesn't.

i also have too many pages with too many variables to hard code all of them, i'd just like them to show up and i can change the unknown phrase to say "Main Page" or something generic like that.

bump from the dead, still looking for a solution

here's the site if anyone's interested,
http://www.bloody-disgusting.com

don't worry, it's just a horror movie news/reviews site nothing gross

you can see that i'm using vbulletin all around the site, allowing users to post comments under the news, post user reviews, etc. that all works fine, but... when they're not on an actual vbulletin page they don't show up as an active user.

somone can sign in, post comments in the news for weeks and it'll show their last activity as the day they logged in.

i'm including global.php on all pages where i need to extend vbulletin functionality, but that doesn't seem to do the trick.

basically i just want them to show up online, right now i don't care what it says on the who's online page, i just want them to show up there period.

any help is GREATLY appreciated!

You need to include global.php and make sure the cookie domain and path are set correctly.

thanks for the reply,

i am including global.php and my cookie settings are as follows..

path = /
domain = .bloody-disgusting.com

my forums are under the /forums directory and the rest of the site is under the root directory, do i need to change my cookie settings to something different? maybe the domain should be blank?

i have login forms on non-vb pages where users can login, and post comments under their vb username, and never have a problem with them appearing not logged in.

They SHOULD show as online. May be something I've forgotten though.
