Of course, login to your AdminCP and "Search in Phrases":

Then change it.

In the same way, search "Username" and "Password" in phrases.

first_visit_message is a Phrase Variable Name.
So, choose either phrase variable only or phrase text and phrase variable name.

Is there a way to see the message that is actually sent, without the code?

I'm not sure I edited correctly. In "Edit", I see both the default and "translated" version where I did my edits.

Is the translated version the one they'll see or will they see both?
