Show/Hide Forum Sidebar On User Group Per User Group Basis
![]() Developer Last Online: Oct 2015 ![]() ![]() ![]()
This is another mod that I just coded for my own forum where some love the forum sidebars and some hate it. What you gonna do, you can''t please everyone, right
![]() Installation: upload the includes folder to your forum root folder and then import the link_gids.xml file inside the mod package to Plugins&Products in the Acp of your forum. After you install it, go to your Acp->Usergroups->Usergroup Manager->{ Chose the group that you want to show or hide the forum sidebar from->Click Edit Usergroup} and under Forum Viewing Permissions, you will see a new setting that says: Hide Forum Sidebar, and set that accordingly. By default it is et to No. For more information, please have a look at the attached screenshot below. Download Now Only licensed members can download files, Click Here for more information. This a very nice mod, Thanks!
One thing for the future though might be, a setting that is like this one but sets usergroups to view a certain block from the sidebar. In other words, setting the permission so that a certain usergroup cant see a block on the sidebar. Just a thought. ![]() No members have liked this post.

You can do that by creating a post count based custom group and then hide the sidebar for them at their permissions.

What errors are you getting if any? It would help if you gave me as much details as possible.

As for now all visitor and user see the sidebar on default setup. If I restrict the sidebar that guests are unable to see the bar, is it good for the server load and does it increase the server performance?

What happens when the user is demoted from that Usergroup ie Subscriber doesn't renew subscription does that side bar stay hidden after the usergroup changes to Registered User thus showing the sidebar again?
