Not nearly as much as one might assume. It's not just a label.

Actually, no, there are only three actual php file edits, and one js file edit (which can be got rid of, I just havent done so).
All the customisations are via the custom style (i.e. templates), plugins and three additional vb.org specific files

It ?

If you are talking about vb.org then no, it should not.
The only upgrade in the next 12 months is likely to be a switch to vB 3.8.11.

why were you running 3.6 and how did you get a 3.6 style to work on 3.8? Why didn't you upgrade to 3.7?

1. Read the forums and you will find the answer to your first question.

2. Why would we bother upgrading to 3.7 and not 3.8, that would be pointless.

TBH, Im not really sure why you seem so fixated on what version we run here.

Umm, that's not really very hard to do at all.

That's in the hands of the developers of vBulletin... although their hands are probably tied behind their backs by the ones up higher.

90 percent of rank and file users don't care if a site is the latest greatest version or not, they don't care if it's "kept up with the times" and they don't really care how it looks either. They care if:

1.) It loads fast and works well.
2.) It loads fast and works well.

Somethingawful dot com routinely has 5000-plus users logged on and posting at any given moment. Its users don't give a red rat's ass that it's a really old version of vBulletin. I can list at least a half dozen other such sites which aren't upgraded and are really really big busy boards.

The "need" to upgrade is a myth.

This might sound weird, but there are times to where I appreciate a forum that uses an older version.
