Not Supported Template Edits Re-usable Code Translations

I've had this little trick installed on my forum and its bought me a few decent registrations as a result.

As so many people where asking how its done, i thought i'd post it here for ease, giving credit to the guys below.

Credit to this edit, goes to KW802 and FRDS who made it so

What does it do??

When an unregistered person views your forum, they will see what appears to be an unread PM notification, with flashing gif, When the user clicks to read the message he's taken to the register page, Once registered he will recieve a welcome PM which has previously been set by yourself in your ACP, to send a PM to new registrations.

Thats it, so simple and it takes, practically minutes to install.

Where to edit??

Simply add the code below to your forums style header template, at the end and save, It really is that simple.

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

Edits to the Code

All you need to do is just upload the flashing newpm.gif to your images folder or any other folder you wish and provide the url in the code, if you view the code you'll see where it goes.

This will only show to unregistered viewers, registered members will not see this.

Hope it brings new registrations to your site also

Take care

Agree. Installing.

After testing, I see the PM message is still there on the registration page as well. Is that correct? Is it supposed to be like that?

Modifications that trick users into registering are useless.

erm thanks for that, but in fact i've seen the opposite, It may be a trick but the "New" Member benefits, by being able to view a more larger site, Join the arcade and be able to benefit from the downloads, all of which are open to full members. It opens up a whole new veiwing and taking part experiance and all because we hinted their curiousity by saying theres a PM waiting.

Sometimes members need a little push to sign up, this is it

Increasing registration numbers, of users who don't post, is a waste of database space

On my board.... personally I would not use this as we want to reflect actual active members who WANT to be on the forums and participate i.e. Gaming Tournament HOWEVER I'm sure some people would want more to join i.e. social sites etc so like UK said, it's not useless... and your on the Support Staff making posts like that?? Where's your manners or positive attitude eh? I found a way to do something else w/ this info so basically it's informative to say the least no matter what your opinion/comment.

2 cents, you can have a refund

I've expressed the same stance on other modifications in the past. I hate it when administrators try to trick their users into registering. Its a low dirty handed tactic. Just like that stupid IE bar modification that does a similiar thing. Nothing makes me navigate away from a site faster.
